Iceland topped its group and automatically qualified for WEURO 2017. The national team first participated at a European championship in 2009. At Sweden 2013, they made it to the quarter-finals where they were knocked out of the tournament by hosts Sweden.

Margrét Lára Viðarsdóttir is current top scorer for the Icelandic women’s team. She has scored 76 goals in 106 games. Viðarsdóttir was also important for Iceland during qualification for the UEFA Women’s EURO 2017, where she scored five goals.

Most caps: Katrín Jónsdóttir

Ex-player Katrín Jónsdóttir holds the record for most appearances for Iceland. She played 133 games and scored 33 goals. She won 26 major titles during her career and retired from football in 2013.

Freyr Alexandersson has coached the Icelandic women since 2013. He is an ex-professional, who spent 7 years playing for Leiknir Reykjavik.
