Het Kasteel

The first version of Het Kasteel, which was the first football stadium in the Netherlands, was built in 1916. Over the years that followed, stands around “Stadium Spangen” were expanded and renewed, although the most significant renovation happened in 1998/1999, when almost the entire stadium was rebuilt. The pitch was rotated, which meant the existing “Castle” became part of the stand along the sideline. The new stadium was re-branded as Sparta-Stadium “The Castle” and has a capacity of 11,000 seats.
